This yarn brings together the softness and elasticity of fine merino wool with the cooler, more relaxed character of linen. A little viscose adds smoothness and subtle lustre, creating a fingering-weight (borderline sport) yarn that feels light in the hand but has enough substance for beautifully defined stitches.

The combination gives the finished fabric a lovely balance of structure and drape. Merino provides softness and gentle bounce, while linen adds breathability and becomes softer with wear. Its single-ply construction gives the yarn a smooth, fluid character, with beautifully defined stitches that retain a slightly relaxed, organic look rather than appearing overly crisp. The plant-derived viscose contributes additional fluidity and a subtle lustre, making this a particularly versatile yarn for garments that you want to move beautifully rather than feel stiff or overly woolly.

One of the most interesting features of this base is the way it takes colour. The merino absorbs the dye while the linen and viscose remain lighter, creating delicate natural highlights throughout the skein. Once knitted, this gives the fabric a softly heathered, almost tweedy appearance and adds depth even to simple stitch patterns.

How it knits up

This yarn creates a lightweight, breathable fabric with crisp stitch definition and an elegant drape. It is a lovely choice for lightweight sweaters, cardigans, tops and accessories, particularly pieces designed to be worn across several seasons. Stocking stitch shows off the subtle variation in the base beautifully, while textured stitches remain clean and defined. Linen softens with washing and wear, so the finished fabric will continue to relax and develop over time. For a firmer fabric, 2.5–3.0 mm needles work well, while 3.0–3.5 mm will give a more relaxed fabric with additional drape.

I would be happy to wind your skeins into cakes at no cost, please leave a message at checkout if you'd like that. Otherwise your yarn will be shipped in skeins.

I use acid dyes that result in vibrant permanent colours. I recommend to handwash a ready item in cool water with as little movement as possible for best results. Some colours might bleed at first wash.
