A little story about yarn advent calendars...
I am happy to announce that I opened the pre-orders for my Halloween yarn advent calendar "13 days of Samhain"! I am incredibly excited about them and wanted to tell you more about the preparation and work that goes into creating them.
I made my first Halloween yarn advents in 2021, and it turned out to be a very existing but gigantic undertaking! I do not exaggerate when I say that it took a good 6 months of everyday work to create them fully, and what a journey it was! I received such a positive feedback on them, I got very emotional when customers got back to me saying that it made their October, it helped them through hard times and it brought some joy into their life. I wanted to thank everyone who got back to me at the time, it was such a rewarding experience for me!
I wanted to make those calendars really special, so I researched the Samhain lore and created some inspiration boards to make each colourway interesting and unique. I am doing it this year as well, all colourways will be inspired by Samhain traditions and will include a little card with a piece of lore.
Outside of the actual yarn colourways, I put a lot of effort into the packaging, artwork, little extras included with some of the mini skeins and a gift that came with the full skein in in the final day of advent. I kept in touch with a lot of small businesses, craters and artists to source unique gifts that would make any knitter or crocheter happy. A few of those artists came back to me later throughout 2022 saying that they gained customers and great reviews from participating in this project with me, which made me incredibly happy and proud.
This year I already found a few fantastic artists who will create a new artwork for my Samhain postcards, little extras and a bigger gift in the end for the full advent calendars. I literally flew to London recently to source some materials and supplies, which is a story for another day to not spoil a surprise... )
The day when we brought all advent calendars to the post office was truly cathartic for both me and my boyfriend, who was supporting me and helped me pack hundreds of little mini skeins in the weeks before.
Last year I did not do the advent calendars. It was a very difficult year for a lot of people and it had a great effect on my life as well, I did not have it in me to go through this journey and I did not feel very festive.
Things continue to be rough in the world, but I am ready and I need this project in my life to make both me and my customers excited about the festive season to come. I started working on these advent calendars in February already and I am so excited to ship them later in September to make someone else's Halloween a little bit more joyful!
Pre-order your Halloween advent calendar for 2023 here. I will ship them in early September to arrive in time for a spooky season.
Thank you for reading my story!
